About the job

As a UI/UX Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Earthbond’s user-facing platforms. In our fast-paced startup environment, you will collaborate with a team of software engineers, product owners and business development specialists to create engaging and intuitive user interfaces. You will be instrumental in designing seamless user experiences that drive solar adoption and financial inclusion for our clients.

Your role will be multifaceted, involving both UI design, front-end development, and UX research. You will help bring to life complex technical solutions for energy management, payments, and IoT integrations, while ensuring that interfaces are visually compelling, easy to use, and accessible.

We seek someone ready to work closely with the team to shape and build the future of Earthbond. You’ll be the first design hire of a team of software engineers tasked with a varied set of initiatives:

Job responsibilities

  • Design & Develop: Lead the design and implementation of user interfaces across Earthbond’s web platforms, ensuring a seamless and responsive user experience.
  • Collaborate: Work closely with engineering, and business teams to translate business needs into functional and visually appealing interfaces.
  • Prototyping & Wireframing: Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes to visualize new product features and ensure alignment with the overall product vision.
  • Front-End Development: Implement front-end code using HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • Design Systems: Contribute to and maintain a design system, ensuring consistent UI components across platforms.
  • User-Centered Design: Conduct user research, gather insights, and iterate on designs based on metrics or feedback from our user base.
  • Usability Testing: Facilitate usability testing sessions and A/B tests to continuously improve user experience.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all interfaces meet quality and accessibility standards.
  • Brand & Marketing: Support our marketing teams with graphic design

About you

We are looking for a UI/UX Engineer who thrives in a startup environment and is passionate about using design and technology to solve real-world problems. You have an eye for aesthetics and inconsistent designs really irk you. A creator at heart, you are not afraid to build something from scratch. You value simple, evidence-based solutions and leverage rapid prototyping and experimentation to find them.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end development.
  • Strong proficiency in HTML/CSS
  • Experience in Javascript development
  • Strong understanding of UX principles, including user-centered design, user flows, and information architecture.
  • Experience in mobile-first UI design
  • Hands-on experience with tools like Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar to create wireframes and prototypes.
  • Experience building design systems
  • Experience working within an engineering team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Nice to have

  • A foundational understanding of electrical energy
  • Experience in data visualization
  • Experience with mobile development
  • Experience with full stack web development

Work environment: Remote / Hybrid

Location: Lagos, Nigeria

Employment type: Short-term trial contract, with potential progression to full time
